ABOUT KATOWICE
Katowice is the capital of the Upper Silesia and Zagłębie Metropolis with the population of over 2 million inhabitants, well connected to the rest of Europe. The young over 150-year-old city promotes itself with the slogan ”Katowice for a change”, which reflects the changes occurring in its area. The Culture Zone, which was constructed on the premises of the former coal mine, is a contemporary symbol of the transformation process observed in the town. Strong economy, academic traditions, attractive public spaces and a great number of green zones (the forests cover over 40% of the city area) make Katowice a friendly place to live. The hi-tech sector services have become the mainstream of the municipal economy. Katowice is also the city of a great number of business, cultural and sporting events of international importance. Another strong pillar of the town is its rich musical tradition combined with numerous and multi-award winning festivals and concerts. No wonder that it was confirmed by the prestigious status of Creative City in the field of music awarded to Katowice by UNESCO.
